My DD is at one and chose it over Brown. I have yet to run into anyone in real life who looks down on her choice, and she's doing just fine.

Most people don't. But you're on the internet the where loud, simplistic, and boorish opinions often seem to dominate over things like nuance, fact-based knowledge, and humility. Both T20 universities and T5 LACs are great, and 99% of high school students would be extraordinarily fortunate to attend either.

This!

But there is a particular strain of LAC-bashers on these threads, who simply don't get their value. I think the majority of those posters were not educated in the US to begin with, so just think the whole concept of LACs is weird. They're only familiar with, and understand, big national universities.

cmon DCUM fawns over the SLACs big time - i had one kid go to a T5 SLAC and second kid at a T20. Number 3 is not even considering a SLAC - majority of kids are boarding school ivy rejects or wannabe ivy reject athletes - hard pass

I don't understand it either.

LAC boosters either have an inferiority complex or looking for justification for spending $360,000 for a bachelor's degree for a school 50% of the public isn't familiar.

Different strokes for different folks. Universities are larger and have more opportunities, clubs, research, etc. LACs are more nurturing, focused on teaching — and may be better shielded from the chaos of the current regime.
