Stay on the mainland. Getting out to one of the islands in the Northeast is a huge time suck for just a long weekend. Especially if you’re traveling from DC, NYC, or elsewhere.

I’d consider doing one of the towns on Fire Island. Easy flight into Islip, which is a Southwest hub.

I like Narraganset then you can take a day trip over to Newport.

I would not do MV or Nantucket, too much of a hassle. Newport is a good suggestion or Rockport, MA perhaps.

My friends and I are hoping to plan a long weekend to a New England beach town in August (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine are all in scope for consideration).

Some of the crew would love to visit Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket, but I’m conscientious of time and difficulty getting there since most will be flying in for the 4 day weekend.

I know it’s already way later than we should have started planning, but would love advice on where to go, where to stay, what to do, where to eat, etc.
