The point of adoption vs. foster care is to give permanent homes.

Foster care is temporary and family reunion is the goal.
Adoption is meant to provide a family when there isn’t one, not to take away a family

In adoption birth family rights are severed. Contact is optional.

I'm an Korean adoptee who came here as a baby and am really struggling with this news.

OP here, yes that's the story. Here's a gift link for the WaPo story: https://wapo.st/4iNRtwk

I have two cousins who are Korean adoptees. They actually found their birth mom about 15 years ago (we are all old) but even though they were not kidnapped from her, it was very clear after they visited her that she had almost no agency in the process. And the adoption agency definitely lied to my aunt and uncle about the circumstances of their adoption. They thought they were doing something especially good because they were adopting siblings and keeping them together. The reality was more complicated.

My cousins grew up in a good and loving home but the circumstances of their adoption left me with really mixed feelings about international adoption and this story is really hitting home in an upsetting way.

These are 100% Korean, PP. You misread. If you knew anything about the history of Korea, you'd know that this has long been known (kids would get kidnapped in hospitals and on playgrounds). This is just an official recognition of the decades of baby kidnapping.

You cannot easily do that. Sounds fake.

Cannot see it but babies are for sale in the US as well... there needs to be far more regulations and courts need to uphold and check things. I know several unethical adoptions including my child's sibling.

I feel terrible for everyone involved (except the people who sold babies for profit).
