I have a CP (from the strategy of opening 2 CCs) and its still barely worth it to me.

I am the OP and I agree. DH and I each have companion passes - we just got them and they expire 12/31/26. We have two kids so they fly free until then IF we fly SW. And even factoring that in to the cost analysis, SW is only sometimes the best deal. It only works for now because we are also spending the points acquired with the CC. Once we run out of those (which happens pretty quickly these days) I doubt we will fly SW much.

This is our third time doing companion passes (maybe even 4th?) and it used to be such a good value. What a shame. But honestly, I'm guessing companion pass is going the way of free checked bags anyway so I doubt it will be an option for very much longer.

Agreed, I expect for 2026 they will make it such that you can only count credit spend towards companion pass, not credit card bonuses. Or at most you will be able to count one bonus per year.

For those who use SW, just FYI.

Not surprisingly, prices are up comparatively and points values are down. At least anything booked before 5/28/25 still has free bags.
