UES/UWS, Gramercy, the West Village and could be convinced on Midtown east. I know it is all easy to get around in, but part of my plan was to spend time near/in Central Park. That is the biggest draw for me when it comes to UWS/UES and the con for the other neighborhoods.
Consider the area around Columbus Circle. The park is right there, you can easily walk to the UES/UWS, it's served by several subway lines, and there are hotels that should have views from their higher floors.
