CBI is not on the ocean. Greta hotel though.


There are very few hotels on the actual ocean because most of the ocean beaches are in the National Seashore. You can see the ocean from CBI and the outer beach is easily accessible by the hotel boat shuttle. If the outer beach keeps eroding CBI will have ocean front soon.

People here seem to like Chatham but I much prefer Orleans, it has great bay and oceans beaches, ponds, the bike path and its commercial strip is less crowded and less fancy than Chatham. It doesn’t really have nice hotels though so if you want to rent a place for this summer it will be hard to find a house.

If you really mean Ocean, then Chatham to Ptown. Falmouth to Harwichport is the Sound. The north side (like Brewster) is the Bay. The outer cape towns have ocean and bay. The outer Cape towns are pretty different so what vibe are you looking for?

Craigville beach is a nice beach, near a few fun things (ice cream, grab shack, penny candy) and not too far from a fancy town (Osterville) or all the things like groceries in Hyannis. I used to spend summers in Osterville, but there aren’t many places to stay there.

It was only 3 rooms, and the top floor had 2 rooms side by side with balconies. Two couples and we had both of those rooms. Magical.

Years ago we stayed at an Air BnB right on the water in Sandwich. First and only time we stayed in an Air BnB, but we loved it.

If you stay at Chatham Bars make sure you don't get a room on the water over looking the docks. It took some doing but we got moved.

Outside of Chatham, we also enjoyed Oceans Edge Resort. They have a number of lodging styles.

Chatham would be my first pick, however, last time we rented a very cute house super close to water in Harwich, it's the next town over to Chatham. If you go for Harwich, go for the area bordering Chatham, those are nicer areas.

Are you looking to stay at a hotel? a home rental? Falmouth, Woods Hole, Mashpee, Cotuit are always my preference -- warm water and no sharks. Also significantly closer than driving way out and not being able to get in the water.

Yes, I am aware of the Great White sharks and kind of look forward to Shark lady’s annual post.

I’ve stayed on Martha’s Vineyard about 5-6 times over the years but never stayed on Cape Cod.
