Fairfax County Parks holds pretty regular invasive plant removal, I think it is almost weekly during the spring and summer. Call and ask there.



Longtime food pantry volunteer and I often suggest that students get permission to host, organize and plan a food drive at their school. So many more hours involved in publicity, messaging, collecting and then transporting and maybe shelving the donations.

Also could ask at school for ongoing, as needed volunteer hours. My DC helped with school tours for new students, another DC did after school program help.

My DS accumulated hundreds of hours in high school volunteering at an after-school program for disadvantaged kids in our county (not FFX). He took the bus there after school 2-3 days per week. He also volunteered with the same organization during the summers after 9th and 10th grades.

I would look at spring break and summer programs where he could accrue larger chunks of hours and reduce the requirement during the school year.

There are often trash pickup days on spring weekends.

Our animal shelter has volunteer opportunities for teens as well as options to do at home (prepping bags of cut up hot dogs, making toys or scratchers for cafes, etc.) yours might as well.

Does your HOA/community/a local church/whatever do Adopt a Highway? He could sign up for that. There’s a group on Reddit that organizes clean-ups as well.

We’re getting into elementary school end of the year party season and I know my kid’s school does a “carnival” type night and they always need volunteers.

Do the sports teams at his school need volunteers for the concession stands or cleaning up after events?
