At 40 or even 45 I could eat whatever and never exercise and was a size 2 or 4. It all hit my at 47 or so and I haven’t been able to lose it. I’m 20-25 poybds hesvier than I was a decade ago. Last year I was able to lose 10 pounds over 6 months with really strict calorie counting and logging food. Then I hit a three month stretch where there was maybe 1 week per month where I was traveling and couldn’t really control what I ate …, and I gained back every pound. It really requires more effort and sustained focus than I can put in. The only women I know that avoided this have some sort of gastrointestinal issue (gluten allergies, IBD, severe stomach ulcers, etc.) or are distance runners.
I think I’m still moderately healthy tough — I walk 3 miles a day, eat mostly home cooked meals, and have increased the portion of meals that follow the MIND diet.

I’ve never been a big eater 1000-1200 was my norm (I’m also short). I have been doing 5-7 orange theory classes per week for years plus either walking or running a few miles per day. I hit 46 and gained nearly 12 lbs in a year. All in my stomach. It sucks.

OP, thank you. I’m fighting to keep the weight off. Like PP, I had it super easy up until the day I didn’t. I now think about food and gain 2 pounds, and exercise doesn’t combat the weight the way it used to.

My best friend, and my mother, are painfully thin and somehow managed to unintentionally LOSE weight during and after perimenopause. They're on weigh-gaining diets.

I'm 45 and so far peri hasn't made me gain any weight at all, but I did gain permanently after thyroid surgery in my 30s. Thyroid problems will do that to you.

I remember a poster on here saying something along the lines of, "did you think all of your moms were just lazy and didn't want to lose the weight??" And it's so true.

-50 yo woman who was skinny until my 40s despite eating a crap ton of food. Now, I basically have to go below 1000 calories per day to maintain the 10 lbs I gained in 2 years despite cutting back on food and upping exercise.

At 42, I was like: you guys just aren't working hard enough or are consuming more than you think.

At 45, wtf is this? I'm workout out hard (strength and cardio), and really haven't changed anything, yet appear to be going through a new growth spurt in the past 6 months.

I'm sorry I doubted you peri and menopausal women for not putting in the effort. This is frustrating as all hell at 45.
