What are the rules to make this transition happen? Do we have to wait until the season is fully over?

If you are paid in full for the current year there is nothing legitimately a club can do other than hold your player card from preventing you from playing officially with a new club. Clubs and coaches who hold this threat over players are well known have been and will be shouted out on forums like this so it tends not to happen. You should feel entitled frankly to shop/play your kid wherever you want. Parents are the customers, there is no business without us.

We have an offer already at a new club, and our old club hasn't started tryouts and another nearby club is halfway through.

If they all go at once they time it to block each other, but, now, we have a situation where we'll make a choice in a vacuum. If we take the offer we have all of April and May and if we were any good, playoffs in June, to be headed out the door.

OP I agree with you 100%!

It would be better if tryouts happened the last 2 weeks of May or beginning of June. The early tryouts totally disrupt team chemistry.

Wish it could be standardized and changed.

I hate it. I don’t understand why tryouts can’t wait until later in the spring and offers go out when the season is over. It’s a 10 month season yet kids placement within the current club is made mostly in the fall.

I don’t get it - I’m a team manager and it’s not that hard to register kids over the summer months. What good are March offers?

Which tryouts have happened so far? We are looking around and it seems they haven't started yet for most teams. A lot of teams don't make offers until May.

Top teams in MLS Next, ECNL, GA have already held tryouts and formed their teams for next year. It trickles down tier by tier through May.

Correct and kids who may be happy on their current team not wanting to move deal with the kids who now thinks they are better than everyone else because they got an MLS offer or GA offer. So now they talk down to other kids who may not want to drive to New Jersey or all over for youth soccer.

It takes the fun away. I hate Memorial Day tourneys more as the team is already split apart and the kid who used to take a pk is now being told that I am better because I moved to a bigger higher team

This sounds like poor leadership and parenting on both sides.

We are leaving and it does not change our families commitment to our club. My kid is focused on their goals and does not disparage anyone if their goals or different. Not a recruiting problem. This is a leadership problem.

Unfortunately not every parent is like you and many leadership and coach problems. It happens on many teams. Kids start practicing with the new teams. Coaches take away playing time of kids who are leaving. It sucks.

Transition should be possible during the season with approval from both clubs.

Yes it would be better if tryouts were later. Problem is clubs are competing with each other for the same players. Parents buy into trying to assemble better players. It’s the system we have and it won’t change unless customers (parents) demand it. There is no governing body with authority to dictate tryout dates across all clubs and leagues. And even if there were, clubs and parents would still start backdoor recruiting earlier. The only thing you can do is help your kid understand it’s going to happen every year and learn how to deal with it.

I’m not sure it matters with the BY/SY change. Every team is going to be really different soon
