We're basically in their backyard, so they're not super interested in DMV students, from what I can tell. Acceptance rate for my kids' strong public is less than 4%, even with lots of high stats applying. The students might have felt that Swarthmore was the best fit for them, or at least a very strong option, but Swarthmore felt otherwise.
4% acceptance rate at DC's magnet school too (with a disproportionate number of NMF and US Presidential Scholar candidates in the state). Used to be 15 or so kids would apply each year. According to Naviance, 4 this year. Students have mostly given up on Swat. Agree Swat is not terribly interested in DMV high-performing schools.
Williams has an even lower acceptance rate, but it knows talent where talent is. You have to have the right contacts, but it is an amazing institution that diminishes Swarthmore

She has found a lovely group of friends there. That’s not to say other types people don’t also have a home at Swarthmore but it’s not the entirety of the student population. I would say it’s probably the most diverse group of students I’ve ever seen.
