I am not judging the rank, I am surprised about the tuition without merit aid at that level.

My daughter’s friend couldn’t come up with 30k for Dartmouth and I thought that’s too bad. I thought some merit aid at this level of ranking would be normal.
My bad, the waitlist is moving if that’s the reality of it.

My daughter entered as a sophomore transfer, although not through the guaranteed transfer program. She applied as a regular transfer student. She was at another 4 year university that ended up not being a good fit.

Lots of kids come in as sophomores so it's not a hard transition. The biggest drawbacks were making sure her credits would be accepted at BU and dorm choice. Some of her credits did not transfer and she's had to take a heavy load of classes to catch up. She's probably going to have to do a semester of summer school or stay an extra semester. She's an engineering major. I'm assuming with the guaranteed transfer program you would get direction on this when picking classes and a school to go to the first year. DD had no intention of ever transferring but things changed.

Also, transfer kids seem to get the crappy dorms. They put them all in the same dorms so there is a community of kids just coming in but the dorms are pretty awful. And that's being generous. Some of them are downright gross.

My son got this too for engineering and I am pretty psyched about it. He can go somewhere else for a year, and if he loves it he can stay but he has this in his back pocket if he wants to transfer.

It's kind of a delayed acceptance. Much better than a rejection or waitlist.

With BU having an 11% acceptance rate, it's a good opportunity to go to an in-state or community college for a year, save some money, and still go to a great school in the Boston area.

Solidarity. DC got this today, too.
It's a way of colleges managing admissions and numbers, given that many schools lose students after freshman year and with worries about the upcoming enrollment cliff, while making sure the applicant has proven college-ready.
So it's great for the school, but we're debating, like you, whether it's good for the kid.
Do you have a sense whether there are costs/deposits involved with that process?

There are a number of universities that offer this. It's good to have in case your kid's best option isn't right for them.

I know lots of people who switched after freshman year. It can be a good decision.

DC got a “guaranteed transfer” offer today. I’ve never heard of this but not from US so a lot of this process is unfamiliar. I don’t like the idea of transferring as a sophomore. Any feedback or other things we should think about? Was DC’s first choice school.
