It's too bad that you were blindsided by the HOPE because otherwise you could have proactively addressed it, but it seems you could do so in an appeal, should that be necessary. That 3 were checked seems to weigh in favor of your child, plus the test scores. As others have said on here, you could also get a WISC. Not cheap but likely worth it (and if the scores are no good you at least learn something new about your child).

OP here. We did not test for it and have no suspicions around that. It is just that he was playful and not listening to the teacher in Q1 which got totally rectified in Q2.

Have your son tested for ADHD, or even set up an appointment with his pediatrician. You can appeal and say the the is currently in the process of being tested for ADHD which would show a reason for his behavior.

NP, Personally the Hope scale looks like a test of outgoingness. As a parent of an introverted child, im not sure how this tests for giftedness.

My DS 2'nd Grade was In Poll for AAP and i received his packet from AART yesterday. As i dreaded , Hope scores are terrible and expecting a rejection.

Rarely - 4 (Q 8 to 11)
Sometimes - 6
Often - 1 (Q .7)

Other scores from this packet - His NNAT is 144; Composite CogAT is 148; iReady Reading Lexile level and Math Quantile level - 88 and 95;VAALS - Fall - Language - 690.

To give some history , we received complaints from teacher that he is not listening and disrupting class as part of the Q1 report. We then talked to our DS and he greatly improved in Q2. The Q2 scores in the 'Life/Work/Citizenship' skills greatly improved(all 4's) over Q1 and even his teacher commended on the improvement and gave good feedback in Q2 comments.

I am disappointed that when my DS improved a lot in Q2 (even as admitted by teacher), the HOPE scores seems to be provided based on Q1. The date on HOPE score says it is - 12/13/2024 , by this team we were alredy working with the teacher and she commended on his improvement. So it looks like when the HOPE score was prepared, the teacher did know his improvements , but still went ahead and have score based on Q1.

I am fully expecting a AAP rejection on April 3'rd. What do i do now? Should i appeal. If i were to appeal , only way i can do is to counter point each and every low score in the HOPE. I can use the Q2 teacher comments itself as one part of the appeal. Should i also do the WISC level ?

Please let me know your thoughts on this. I would not be too much concerned if DS did not improve. It is just that my DS worked so hard to get his ways right in Q2 but the HOPE score truly does not reflect his current behavior or abilities.
