Ha, I saw this post come up and realized it was MY post from 9 months ago. We ended up using Dr. Ng at Potomac Psychiatry. He helped us find a med that works better than anything we’ve tried up to this point. DS is just really skinny and meds-sensitive, so the issue was indeed that he just needed a (much) smaller dose (below the minimum recommended dosage). That, combined with a supportive teacher, and DS is doing great this year.

As far as prescribing and having providers listen, the single best luck I've had is with PNPs. I'd give you our current one but she only treats adults.

I know I’ve shared this before, but we found our psychiatrist through Talkiatry and she is excellent. Just a regular copay for each 30 minute visit and she’s hyper focused on kids with needs like our daughter. Appointments are telehealth, I know that doesn’t work for every situation.

anyone have experience with Chesapeake Center in Bethesda? or know any place that takes Blue Cross Blue Shield? had meh experience with Children's Hospital child psych people.

OP- DS is 9, telehealth is okay (at least initially/sometimes), preference for covered by insurance but not necessary, and I’d say the complexity is that we’ve tried a number of meds with no success BUT I strongly suspect DS just needs a smaller dose. Need someone who is willing to hear what we’re telling them and not just say, “But that shouldn’t be happening!”

How old is your child, how complex is their case, and is it important that they are seen in person vs telehealth? Also are you looking for someone covered by insurance or happy to pay any cost?
