I should say- depending on the issue- you will go to Georgetown or Children's... if the mother is fine- mom stays at Sibley.

if you are delivering at Sibley- you will go to Georgetown for any issue. Unless you switch to a CWC that delivers at Fairfax

+1. If this is something that you are worrying about, I would ask your OB at your next appointment. Have her take you through what happens if you start having contractions/pre-term labor so you feel like you know what to expect.

If you think you are having any sort of contractions pre-term you should call your OB's emergency line. They will tell you what to do/where to go. My OB delivered at Sibley, but, I know for high risk or pre-term labor, we were sent to Georgetown.

+1 I went in for decreased movement at 28 weeks and the attending OB told me I should have gone to GT instead because if something had been wrong they couldn't help. (Everything was fine; eventually delivered at Sibley at 39 weeks.)

Medstar Washington Hospital Center will resuscitate at 22 weeks. They have a high level NICU and will transfer to Children's if needed. I'd go there if I were periviable. They handle a lot of high risk deliveries with very ill babies because if issues are diagnosed before birth and there is a known need for immediate complex intervention, other hospitals will transfer delivery there for the coordination with Children's. The service level/amenities are not as high end as Sibley but the medical care is great.

Double check with your insurance but we have State of MD UHC Choice and they are in network for us.

If your OB delivers at Sibley they have a plan in case of very early delivery. For my OB (at Reiter Hill) it was also Georgetown. Ask at your next appointment.

Just neurotic

I’m usually not, but I had a lot of first trimester issues that started things off on the wrong foot, and thinking through plans for different scenarios helps my anxiety.

Thought the thread might be useful for other women, too.

I also delivered at Sibley but my OB directed patients to Georgetown in case of labor before 32 weeks.

Inova Fairfax has level IV nicu. It’s phenomenal. Highly recommend, though hope you don’t need it.

My sister was sent to Georgetown (GW was diverting people at the time). Your OB will tell you where to go if it comes to that.

Where would your insurance cover? Whc has children's right next door, so that seems like a good option.

I’m set to deliver at Sibley (OBGYN: CWC), but I know they don’t have much of a NICU.

I’m at almost 23 weeks now, so in the “periviability” zone. I feel like I should have a plan in the off chance that I go into labor super early.

Does anyone know what the cut offs for the local hospitals are in terms of how early they would try to save the baby? Would it be reasonable to go to a different hospital if they could handle the gestational age better than Sibley?
