Patriot League does not sponsor hockey, but Army, Boston University, Colgate, and Holy Cross all field D1 teams. They compete in various hockey-only leagues.

Lehigh and Bucknell have pretty serious upper tier D1 wrestling programs, so even for a sport that’s typically a casualty of Title IX there is ample money. So I would imagine there is money for lesser sports (no offense) like soccer, cross country, track, and tennis - even if a kid winds up getting $10k off sticker price with a partial scholarship, at least that’s something - and better than what the Nescac offers

Correct, but one advantage of being an athletic recruit is they will tell you your merit package (or need-based if applicable) based on your pre-read, so at least you know the $$$s you should receive if you decide to take the offer and apply.

I don’t understand the comment “non helmet sport”. That means it’s not football or LAX (or hockey…do they even have hockey?).

If it’s basketball, there could be scholarship money. If baseball…maybe 10% of all players could get something but probably only $5k-$10k on average. This is of course all different from need-based or merit-based aid that is offered to admits that don’t play sports.

Outside of those sports, there is next to nothing.

That said…if you go down the recruiting path and the coach gives you an offer you should ask how much $$$s your kid should expect from the school from the finance office completely separate from sports.

I know schools like Lehigh and Lafayette give merit aid to many kids, so you should ask what your kid can expect (the more rigor of the the transcript and good grades plus high test scores are big determinants).

I think this is where many people think all D1 is very similar. There are some new rules for NCAA scholarships going forward. There are now some rules that have changed with limits to scholarship caps and roster sizes. The institutions do not always have funding to provide scholarships and have limits per sport of how many scholarships they can offer. Can they possibly offer a scholarship yes. Will they is to be determined by each school.

Every Patriot League school is permitted to offer scholarships. Every school is also allowed to decide if they will and how many in each sport. Some schools offer a lot more than others.

Schools in the patriot league are allowed, by NCAA and league rules.

Some schools may not choose to spend a lot of money on athletic scholarships, and so coaches may not have $ to offer.
