I love CT, but Most towns in CT aren’t great enough to stay in for a week or have a big enough house to rent. (Not typical vacation towns)

My family is in NY and CT and we are in VA.

Here’s where we’ve been:

Ocean city nj is a great family town where you can rent a big house. Not to be confused w ocmd. We’ve gone twice and enjoyed it.

Cape Cod: far drive for the VA crowd but lots to do and we went whale watching, etc.

We’ve considered Lake George/ finger lakes and renting a house in the Hamptons too.

We did the Poconos many years ago and it was kinda dumpy, but it could be ok if you hit the right place.

Philly and NYC are great for city trips.

If you go to Mystic, Essex also has a steam train that’s fun for kids.

Thanks! Williamsburg is too far from NYC for my BIL, but will take a look at house rentals in Lancaster and Bethlehem. Any particular activities you recommend in either place?

Bolton landing on lake George, but it's more like 4 hours from NYC

Really? I have friends and relatives in CT and I’m not sure what I’d recc for this request (I mean I guess there is Mystic but I’m not I’d want to be there for a week).

Looking for a town that's good for my family vacation. Any suggestions welcome!

Criteria:
7 people
Kids are 5 and 7
Grandparents are in their 70s, but very active
3 adults in our 30s
Within 3 hour drive of NYC
Within 6 hour drive of Fairfax, VA
Between August 9-16


We like hiking, trains, cafes, museums, artsy stuff (music festivals, art festivals)
