My birthday is also in May, and I applied for retirement benefits in early February. I have Medicare so I've already been vetted by SSA. My application is still in step 2 of 3, after 40+ days, when the typical time, per the website, is 30 days. I hope, and assume for now, that it's a normal SSA delay or a DOGE-incompetence-enhanced delay, rather than being intentional.

The Trump administration is indeed trying to cut federal Medicaid spending, but it is states, not the federal government, that process applications for people to enroll in Medicaid.

I turn 65 next month, applied in February and got the same Medicare mailings within a couple weeks. But the Social Security site just keeps saying they have completed two of the three approval steps. If I hadn’t been laid off from my federal contracting job I wouldn’t be applying yet. iIt is all so messed up and I worry how much worse it will get.

They’re not being very quiet. The head of SSA said anyone who complains is committing fraud.

I'm an elder law attorney. This is 100% correct. They are trying to destroy the system by making it as difficult as possible to claim benefits.

We haven't seen the worst of it yet.

OP yes I did. After 2 weeks of Medicare and SSA not showing anything, I tried calling. What a nightmare. Worse for people who used that method and think it's working if it's not.

There is something weird going on.
A month ago I applied for Medicare B.
Used the online web form. Attached proofs.
Used the e-signature, got emails back from SSA saying I verified signature and was signed and filed.

Wondering why it never showed in SSA or Medicare accounts.
Called SSA, no record of ANY application. Three people looked.

Drove paper out to field office.

My recommendation is use paper and take it to them. They have dropboxes.
