Just curious if you all are okay with pilots and ATC being forced to speak English?

Jesus y’all are scary. This is for safety. Not everything is an attack.

This a a federal regulation not some Arkansas rouge move. You cannot have a CDL unless you have a level of proficiency with reading and writing English. This should always have been enforced. Transportation safety regulations are developed for a reason - safety.

It doesn’t mean English has to be your native or primary language. Just that you have the required level of proficiency. So if you’re saying the test requires a higher standard of proficiency than required by regulation, then there might be something to investigate.

And frankly, if this were a discriminatory requirement, then why didn’t Biden and Pete get it changed? This is false outrage.

What is the standard of basic fluency? Is it a 6th grade reading level? Or lower? Is it reading and speaking? Who tests the speaking?

21% of adults in the US are illiterate in 2024. 54% of adults have a literacy below a 6th-grade level (20% are below 5th-grade level).

I am sure this will be fairly enforced in a totally unproblematic way.

Basic fluency is a good idea. I don't expect a critical analysis of a Steinbeck novel.

Sample ballots don't require the reading.

I’m fine with that and the CDL checks too!

Everyone who has a driver's license must be able to read English, so seems like this would have always been a no-brainer for CDLs especially.

I do not see why you seem to think truck drivers must be required to read highway warning signs.

You seem very racist.

That seems rather vague. Reading a traffic sign isn’t the same as speaking English. Being able to order at Starbucks doesn’t mean you can talk about the stock market.

Good! I can’t tell you how many deliveries we receive from over the road truckers that are unable to speak English. I have to use a translator app. 🤦‍♂️
