We did lower and you go down in small groups. It was an amazing experience, one of our favorites and we travel a lot. Our Navajo guide was very personable. I liked lower because you could walk up to the slot and did not need to ride a truck to the point. We used Ken's Tours.

We went on spring break so it was crowded, but in small groups so it was manageable. We went around 10am and it was still gorgeous. As long as you prebook a slot with either upper or lower you should have no problem.

If crowds are a concern do canyon x as well. There are also other slot canyon hikes in the area that don’t require a guide.

I would highlight this. We just went a few days ago and it is still low season and felt like we were cattle being herded. Told where to stand, where to take pictures, exactly when to move, with groups in line right in front of us and behind us. It was beautiful, but honestly I would not recommend it.

Two nights is more than plenty. What else are you doing on the trip? See antelope canyon and horseshoe bend in a day… then leave as there is so much around the area. Do not drive on the reservation after dark, it isn’t safe. I live in flagstaff and there are so many drunk drivers, large trucks etc on the two lane roads, it’s super dark with reckless drivers passing eachother.

Upper Antelope Canyon is on Native land. You must use one of their designated tour operators. It doesn’t matter which as there is only one way in and out of that slot canyon. They also all leave from same parking lot so just pick the cheaper one.

As for time of day, the time where it’s possible to see the “sun beam” is the more expensive time slot. There is no guarantee that you’ll see it though as you can’t plan for clouds.

You need permits. So you either have to go with a tour or you have to apply for them in advance.

Two nights in Page should be enough and I really enjoyed my stay at the Hyatt Place.

Just make sure you time your tour is within the hours that they recommend for the best sunlight. We hardly had any when we saw Upper Antelope Canyon in the afternoon and that was disappointing. Also, be sure to book for Upper Antelope Canyon, Lower Antelope Canyon (my personal favorite), and Antelope Canyon X. Horeshoe Bend is just a few minutes drive away from Antelope.

Is 2 nights in Page enough for Antelope Canyon? Also, does anyone have a good recommendation for a smaller group/private tour? Thanks!

What season is the best to go?

We stayed 2 nights at the Hyatt Place which was fine and also went to Horshoebend which is not to be missed. Depending on the season there are also activities on Lake Powell. Drove to Utah to see the hoodoo toadstools too which was about 30 min-1 hour away.

What’s there to plan? You travel there and book a tour.

I really loved it when we went there on our trip to Arizona two years ago at spring break. If you are staying in Sedona or other bases, make the 3 Hour drive to page, stay overnight at like the courtyard or La Quinta.

Then the next day do a tour of antelope Canyon and horseshoe Bend

Then drive on back to Sedona or to the east gate of the Grand Canyon.

It’s not worth staying more than one day overnight, but it is worth an overnight trip and one of the most beautiful things we saw. My kids liked antelope Canyon better than the Grand Canyon.
