FWIW Maury prepared my 5th grader very well for BASIS. I think all BASIS kids who came from Maury are doing overall better than peers coming from other schools.

Lol.
OP, the way you can tell the Maury parents replying to you is that they are kind, trying to be helpful, not trying to bring others down about their choice of MS or, gasp, a random typo. That’s what you can expect at Maury, along with lots of bright kids who go to a variety of middle schools. Wishing you luck.

Sorry, EH.

Usually the academically advanced know the name of their own school.

Haha, that makes more sense🙂

And to go along with the earlier post about enrollment pathways, there are increasing numbers of kids from the feeder schools going and larger cohorts of kids.

That is fine. You just need to hope that you get into Basis for 5th grade if your kid is academically advanced or Latin if not.

Not true.

And the numbers lost are getting smaller too. they have two full 5th grades now.

This page has been referenced in other threads but for anybody that is not seen it I wanted to re-share.
https://edscape.dc.gov/page/student-enrollment-pathways

You can see where kids go between 4th and 5th, or 5th and 6th, or 8th and 9th. For Maury specifically it looks like the last year they had data (before last year), 50+ kids stayed from 4th-5th, and roughly 30 kids went to Eliot Hine.
I am sure it varies every year, and I think more than 30 kids went to Eliot Hine last year (they had to hire another teacher bc of unexpected enrollment).

I think the data on that site is going to update in a few weeks to include this current year, but not sure.

Maury parent of multiple. Yes, the curriculum/writing is excellent. No, very few leave (except for normal churn/moving reasons) till 5th (to go to charters). I have many other great things to say about this school, but trying to keep specific to your questions. We went through the middle school private school admissions process and had no difficulties with competitiveness.

Not a Maury parent but a DCPS one. My friend group all have early elementary age kids. The ones still on the Hill are already making plans/moving their kids so yes, the high achieving cohort is already starting to peel off. Especially those who are going to have a harder time with private school admissions (no hooks, not wealthy or well connected, not alums of HYPS/Ivies/Michigan/Berkeley/etc). They’re trying to set themselves up now because they don’t want to leave the city.
