The indoor track season is only two months long. I think there are 36 spots for boys and 36 for girls, but some kids will not be selected for meets. As the previous poster noted, it is competitive to get on the team. I think indoor track has slightly fewer kids trying out, due to the short season.

The indoor track team practices twice per week after school. Practices are often outdoors, although they are sometimes inside. FYI, there are very few indoor track facilities in the DMV. Most schools use the PG Sports Complex. It is tough to get on the schedule there, so meets are infrequent. The Complex has open entry Sunday showcases in the winter, though.

The Deal track team can be difficult to make until eighth grade, unless they are pretty competitive in track as a sport. I’m not saying it’s impossible. I’m saying we know a lot of fast soccer players who didn’t make it in sixth grade.

Thinking about winter track for next year. Those who have been in 6th in recent years, what can you share about the sports at Deal? I have an athlete who is competitive in a sport not offered and busy with the sport 5-6 days a week, at least 3 school nights. Also plays competitive (not travel/not rec) soccer. I think indoor track for winter would be good conditioning for their sport. Where do they practice indoor track? (inside, not outside, right?) I have heard there are few spots for the huge number of kids trying out for the sports. I really would like to hear more about this. I am sure my kid will be interested in clubs too. I'm trying to assess expectations. Like tryout for fall soccer if you don't make it, you can do _____ (something else that's conditioning). I think they would have fun in cheer too (former dancer and can tumble).
