Btw, this budget includes money for a 3-5% general wage adjustment (police get the most, but at least 3% for everybody) as well as 3.5% step increases for eligible employees in the county government. Similar for MCPS employees. Totally unaffordable. In six months there will have to be furloughs and RIFs.

X1000000 but that’s on the Council. Elrich has promoted impact taxes and the council is dedicated to giveaways to developers. Freidson and Fani-Gonzalez are the drivers of the latest tax abatement absurdity.

Or maybe start asking developers to start paying impact taxes. That offsets some of the infrastructure costs.

The giveaways to the owners of the casinos and stadiums were marketed as benefiting all MD schools…and that was a lie.

They were giveaways to billionaires.

Elrich: cut costs. Don’t raise taxes.

Agree with this. It's become absurd.

The county needs a reality check.

As another posted said, there will be a bit of an exodus from the county as Feds, Contractors, and NGOs cut thousands of employees.

You know what the county could do? Find a way to prevent businesses that operate in cash from not paying their fair share of taxes. Landscapers, handymen, contractors, painters, plumbers, housekeepers, mechanics, etc.

How about all the landlords who own tons of houses across the county who are renting, making tons of money, and not paying anything?

How about STOP giving incentives and handouts to developers?

+1 to all of this

Please DOGE MoCo and MCPS especially. So much wasted money at MCPS while outcomes keep declining.

How about no..

How about stop sucking and be business friendly? Look at MoCo now....so much trouble because it relies so much on the goobermint for jobs.

Another one??

He already did 8.7% a few years ago. Then tried for another big one- that the council cut in half last yr.

Couple that with everyone's property taxes going way up anyway because of assessments.

Good Lord, Elrich.

For once stand up to MCPS (who just asked for an absolutely staggering budget)

This budget seems oblivious to macro factors. If federal and federal-related jobs are heavily cut and don't return over the next 4 years, not only will homeowners be stretched to maintain their homes, but the inevitable exodus from the DC metro area will result in fewer children and lower school needs.

Deeply stupid and tone deaf to not only increase taxes but to lock in a huge increase in MCPS budget (due to maintenance of effort) while county residents are losing their jobs left and right.
