Hurricane Dorian would have cost Florida a fortune due to evacuations and lost productivity if it wasn't for advancements in modeling that indicated the storm would not hit Miami as a major hurricane as everyone initially feared.

Unfortunately, it instead sat over the Bahamas and devastated that country for days--but Florida was lucky in that case.

The loss of NOAA staff will result in higher insurance costs over time due to reduced progress in forecasting accuracy.

It is an unnecessary government service, along with food inspection, medical device and pharmaceutical oversight, grants and subsidies to farmers, natural disaster assistance, counterterrorism efforts, investigations of kidnappings, serial killers, timely processing of tax returns etc. These are all things the American public has voted to downsize or eliminate (among many other programs).
