I only have direct experience with SJC. However, if the decision for your kid isn’t close between Bullis and SJC, especially throwing in having friends at Bullis and higher likelihood to make the team for their sport as an average athlete, there isn’t going to be enough differences between the schools for the things that matters to your son that will change his mind.
So the question really comes down to how comfortable are you paying the tuition and feel it’s “worth it” and how does this impact ability to pay for college. On the college point, my kids both went to private high schools and one got Spring admissions at UMD and the other flat out rejected. While they both ended up at very good colleges, from a financial standpoint it was hard finding options that wouldn’t cost more than private high school plus what we had in the 529 to cover in-state tuition.

The new baseball coach at Bullis is amazing. I think he's a dean there too, so he's around the kids all the time.

Baseball and soccer?
If playing a sport in HS is important to him, his chances will be better at Bullis. Bullis typically has multiple soccer teams including (most years) a freshman team. Baseball is doable at Bullis for a kid who has played travel ball—at least at the JV level. An average athlete isn’t likely to play soccer or baseball at SJC although soccer is more possible. Maybe.

Are academics stronger at one over the other?
DS wants Bullis as he has friends there and loves the campus. The price difference is large. Bullis would be a financial stretch for our family. DS likes sports culture of each school, but is an average athlete.
If anyone has experience with both, would be interested to get some feedback. Commute is similar. We are Catholic but non-practicing.
