I thought swimming was part of the Arlington ES PE, there is a school year where the kids go to the pool and learn very basic swimming.

No. Public schools here do not have swimming pools and they do not teach swimming. This is not where kids here learn to swim. That is left to summer swim programs at private pools, private swim schools, and programs at gyms and county and local rec centers.

We started when our kids were tiny, first with just us getting them comfortable in the water in our association pool. Then went to county Rec centers for them to learn basic strokes, started summer swim, did Lifetime for a year, then YMCA, now Machine and high school swim team.

Are students required to take swim classes in Fairfax county schools? If they are, how many classes and which grades? Or is swim an elective? Which schools have a pool onsite?
