I don’t think the Hatch act applies to the president. Every other federal govt employee yes (Kellyanne Conway got slapped on the wrist for violations last administration) but I think Trump is exempt.

Ethics rules don’t apply to the president. One of the things Congress should have tried to fix after the first Trump presidency but they didn’t.

Delaney Marsco, Director of Ethics for the Campaign Legal Center, a non-profit legal group, told ABC News that ethics laws primarily focus on executive employees serving under the president but not on the president himself.

She said that was because lawmakers who wrote those rules did not anticipate any president disregarding longstanding standards of what's expected and acceptable.

"One of the things we have relied on in ethics norms are the norms about what is right. President Trump doesn't abide by those norms," she said.

News of the donation came out on the same day as Trump used the White House to sell Teslas. Couldn’t they constitute Trump violating the laws of using public office to make money? Is no one going to bring a lawsuit about this?
