My ES kids are now learning rules of spelling and getting weekly spelling tests based on those rules. My older kids, who did Curriculum 2.0 and Benchmark for ES, didn't have spelling as far as I could tell -- and certainly no spelling lists sent home. This is a big improvement.
There has always been spelling in ES, even in C2.0
Maybe at your W school? Our poor Focus school had ZERO spelling instruction in ES. Our MS did hold a spelling bee and we forced our kids to participate in the hopes that it would help a little with spelling.

Our school had a Come to Jesus moment when they finally realized the 5th graders weren’t equipped for middle school. They were the real Guinea pigs who endured the horrific 2.0 curriculum throughout elementary school.
Congrats on the return to commonsense, but it won’t be enough.
If you have the money, send your kid to private school. I’m so angry at myself for not finding a way to get out of mcps.
