Yes and no to the above -- You don't need to play for Achilles to make the SJC soccer teams, BUT many of the SJC players do play for Achilles. The PP underestimates the numbers -- approx. nine Achilles players played SJC varsity last fall (and all but a couple played simultaneously on Achilles MLS Next teams). And at least another 10 Achilles players played on the JV or Freshman teams. The Achilles players definitely receive preferential playing time on the SJC teams -- last fall the Freshman and Varsity SJC teams were coached by Achilles coaches. But, for the second year in a row, the JV team was coached by an SJC teacher. No word yet on who will be the coach for the SJC Freshman team for Fall 2025.
That being said, your son should absolutely stay with his Bethesda travel team. And if he should make the Bethesda MLS Next team, then just pass on playing for SJC.

If your kid isn’t on Bethesda’s MLSnext team by now, he’s likely not going anywhere anyway. And SJC isn’t a powerhouse to begin with. Hopefully he’s able to get in on academics alone.
