My experience with Principals is that they see themselves as the one who GIVES the feedback. This Principal seems like they’re not going to be receptive to hearing feedback from a regular civilian parent. I also don’t want the Principal to share any of my discussions or feedback with other APs or staff, because I don’t want it to have any impact on my son. Meaning, treat him differently, grade him differently, or just gossip about him. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s happened before. I’ve also thought of involving the director but I wonder if the director will always side with the Principal being a former Principal themselves.
Has anyone here ever had a successful experience sharing their feedback with a Principal? Or Admin in general?
I think you need to get over your fears here.
You had a bad experience and you should be ok with giving that feedback to the principal and/or their director. You should not accept, as normal, that your son would have negative consequences happen to him as a result of you giving feedback on your principal. As an MCPS parent and a taxpaying citizen, it is your right to give feedback, even if it's negative.
If your son WERE to be treated negatively or differently as a result of your feedback, that's another complaint to issue and go to the system about.
Parents have to stop worrying about the hurt feelings of MCPS staff and leadership and prioritize advocating for their kids over the emotions or perceptions of grown-ups.
