My uses are some texting, calling, GPS, some bored we surfing. I don’t have many apps nor do I play games on my phone.

Oh yeah also trying to save money by buying a previous edition of the phone.

iPhone 13 for $150. unlocks after 60 days automatically. You do have to buy one of their high-end plans ($65/month) for at least one month and port in a number. After 60 days you can move the phone to other cheaper services (e.g. Tello). This phone is more than capable of doing what you need.

My personal phone is a 12 pro (almost 5 years old) and my travel phone is an Xr. Both are more than enough for my needs.

Me again..

- I bought two of these a couple of months ago when they did not require a port-in. Just paid for one month, let the phone sit in a drawer for another and it was unlocked for use anywhere. My kid uses it (with Redpocket 12GB/m plan, about $18/m if paid upfront for a year). The other, I'll likely use for myself and sell the 12 pro.

- This is the last iphone with a physical sim slot, if that matters.

There is a new iPhone 16e which replaced the iPhone SE as their lower cost option.

If you want a USB-C charging/sync connector instead of the proprietary Lightning connector, then an iPhone 15.

If you are ok with Lightning, there are many more options.

There are still new phone deals to be had. Try Walmart / StraightTalk and T-Mobile first. T-Mobile coverage is much much better now than it was even 3-4 years ago.

I have an SE and it’s fine for what I do. My usage is similar to what you describe.
