My child dropped one point between fall and winter reading iready, and five percentage points down to 87th percentile.

But despite the lower score, the breakdown shows them as staying "max score' in three domains, moving from "at grade level" to "above grade level" in two domains, and staying " at grade level" for the last domain.

I don't get it.

The iReady is not a great test.

I posted above about a 2e kid who sometimes can't be bothered to try on iReady, so scores are all over the place, and I don't assign any value to them for that kid anymore.

I also have a neurotypical and bright kid, and she scores better on a relative percentage basis in the fall than in the winter or spring. I think it's because we supplement over the summer with AoPS and reading (maybe 30 minutes of AoPS plus 30 minutes of reading every weekday). A better curriculum plus one-on-one help from an adult (me) wins out over whatever instruction she gets in the school year.

I interpreted that as not being challenged so I supplemented after I got the winter score back and it went up quite a bit for the spring score. We then continued over the summer and it went up further for fall of third grade. Just got the winter score back and has maintained that same percentile so I think is finally being challenged at school (stopped supplementing at home once started in aap program last fall).

This is so what I would like to happen.

I'm not sure I'd say 'bad' teacher but DC is simply not learning anything new in the classroom, and it's a rambunctious class. They are currently counting by 5s and 10s... DC says the enrichment is rare--like once a week. It's a sad state of affairs. We hadn't practiced some skills DC acquired last year and it seems some were forgotten.

Yup- my second grader too. Especially because she was already above grade level and she hasn’t learned anything new this year.

Once school gets harder, the scores seem to go up

Thanks. This makes me feel better but I'm also concerned. DC seems to be losing interest/focus in school.

We went from 98 to 99%tile. Think we could use this improvement for an Appeal if it comes down to needing to appeal? Don't really want to take the WISC-V.

I would, especially if the underlying scores are quite different.

Happened often with my 2e kid (adhd/gifted). If they aren't into it that day, they don't try. Last year, their highest iReady score was in the fall, with both winter and spring lower.

Can someone explain this to me? I don't understand the iReady. Score in fall of grade 2 was 493 and in winter it was 459.
