The Crown really downplays this relationship. You might think from the show they only dated briefly, but it was actually around 2 years.

+1, the show is based on a combination of truth, speculation based on truth, speculation based on rumors, and straight up fiction for dramatic effect.
You should take everything in that show with a big grain of salt. They get many things very accurate but they also take a lot of liberties. Assume that anything that involves these people interacting in private -- that's all imagined.
