This is why you are just a teacher. In many states, counties full educ budgets is from the federal government

The Department of Education did not exist until Carter created it. i think it was 1980.
I taught before and after the Department of Education was formed.
Title I pre-dates the Department of Education and it will exist after it goes away. Many public laws regarding special education, learning disabilities, etc. pre-date the Department of Education. I was teaching when many of those were enacted.
I don't think people realize what a mess the Dept of Education has been. Student loans existed prior to the Dept of Education. They have always been an issue, but it became much worse under this department.
It is just a bureaucracy peeling off $$ that would be better spent at the local level where the instruction happens.
No. The mess has been at the state level and the district level. The mess comes from parents who think they know more than the educators. The mess comes from people sitting in comfy county offices making policies and programs without understanding or listening to the educators who are in the thick of it every day. Funding is at risk. So sit down.

Nothing stops a state from abolishing public education. I think they could even ban cities and counties from providing public education.
I don't think that is planned by any state, and if it were planned the existence of a federal Department of Education wouldn't change things.
