Don’t see why you couldn’t go OMAD on those days, or shift your window a little?

You may also look into Krista Varidy (sp?) every other day diet- that was a good starter plan for me

IF became lifestyle change for me because I lost weight - 18 lbs in firstv4 months, then kept it off, within 2-3 lbs going on 6 yrs now.
The addition of some weight training helps me maintain. I did not have a big Covid gain, no big holiday/ vacation gains. Again, maybe a couple pounds, but resumed 16/8; 17/7 and weights with some cardio.
I promised myself I would enjoy vacation, meals with friends and just taper/ adjust after.
I feel very fortunate that it works for me. No longer in prediabetic range and feel pretty great. Good luck!

I found 5:2 more successful for weight loss than daily intermittent fasting. Eat normal 5 days of the week and then do two 500 calorie days. I normally did Tuesdays and Thursdays as my 500 calorie days. Doing this I was able to easily lose about 20 pounds.

If you know ahead that you'll be eating outside of your chosen window, you'd be better off just eating a full day and then drastically cutting your calories the following day when you have no work/social dinners

If right now you typically eat a big breakfast and you cut that out and eat healthier for lunch and dinner maybe you will see a difference. I was never a huge breakfast eater (used to eat scrambled eggs and avocado or oatmeal) and cutting that out literally made zero difference.

In terms of timing, not sure how much it really matters if it’s a one off, but if you have a late dinner every week then definitely adjust your hours but you may need to do it on both sides (day of and day after).

Thanks for your reply. May I ask why you do IF if you didn’t lose weight doing it? I thought that was the primary reason people do IF. I appreciate the added benefits of lower blood pressure, many people change their porediabetic status after IF, and so on, but all of those benefits are also associated with weight loss generally, whether one loses the weight via IF or dieting or whatever means.

You are obsessing too much over it.
Just eat less carbs overall.

I’m thinking of trying 16/8 IF to lose weight and because I am pre-diabetic and have high blood pressure.

A couple of questions -

If you have an engagement in the evening that requires you to eat past your eating window, how do you handle it? For example, I think I’ll keep my eating window to 11am - 7pm. Once a week or so I have work dinners or social dinners, in which the eating doesn’t even start until after 7pm. I guess I could start my eating window at say 1pm (although how I’ll mentally function w/o earing until 1pm I can’t imagine ☺️) on such a day to skew my eating window to end at 9pm, but doesn’t that mess with the fast window when I resume my 11-7 schedule the next day (because I’ll only have fasted 9pm-11am or 14 hrs).

Also, once you lose all the weight that you intend, how do you shift to weight management vs weight loss on IF?

Thanks for advice and encouragement (even if it is to discourage me from doing IF!).
