Unfortunately, we do have a percentage of the population who think Trump is wonderful, and everything would be fine if Trudeau hadn't been Prime Minister. I'm more than a little worried.

Carney is very likeable and seems wonderful. I am confused as to how the system works. He IS Prime Minister now, but could lose to Poilievre soon? I can't seem to find an election date. Does it get announced and then everyone just shows up and is able to?

They are opposed to Conservative values and they also value independence and French-Canadian culture, so highly unlikely to form a coalition with the right wing traitor (to Canada and to French Canada) who is supporting Trump's invasion attempts

I don't find this surprising, since PP is seen as Little Trump. I suspect that the Conservatives will lose more ground as Trump continues to attack us.

In a multi-party parliamentary country like Canada (with a structure specifically created to prevent a situation like a President running roughshod over the nation unhecked for years, a system whose wisdom we are now seeing in its absence in USA) it's about the coalition in parliament as much as the general election. With conservativism becoming toxic (the usual consequences of seeing conservatives in actual power, not just screaming from the sidelines), the other parties will form a coalition without them.

Adding my comment from the other thread here:

Pierre Poilievre thought he'd sail to victory running on being someone other than Trudeau. And he probably would have.

But most people --even the ones who were planning to vote for him-- think he's unintelligent, weak and unlikeable. They just hated Trudeau.

Now the number one issue is Trump and Canadians worry that PP would be in his pocket. Not to mention that he's been endorsed by Musk. Add to that the fact that Trudeau has resigned and is gaining support because he's able to speak out against Trump...and the Liberals have gone from potentially losing their party status to being back in the mix. It's been a wild month.

They've seen that America rapidly morphed into a spoils system with a peasant class, who alienated their allies, and will vote accordingly.

After 3 years of Conservatives steadily gaining popularity in Canada post-COVID, and
since peaking on Jan 20 2025 (what happened in Canada that day??) Conservatives have lost 4pts, a full year of gains, in just 6 weeks.

Liberals/Trudeau have gained 10points, as Conservatives back away from the MAGA takeover, and left-wing NDP supporters rally behind the Prime Minister and the Libs, against Trump/US aggression.

The center-left Lib + left NDP + left Green is now polling at 50% against the right-wing Conservative 40%.
Quebec separatists BQ are at 7%, and I don't think those Francophones are going to support an alliance with Anglo-uber-alles MAGA.
