Bad luck and/or lack of demonstrated interest. More than other Ivies, I think Dartmouth wants students who understand Dartmouth. It's more liberal arts college than university. It's rural, social, and outdoorsy and the kids who flourish at Dartmouth embrace those qualities rather than simply tolerating them.

For T2/T3 high schools in nyc, Cornell is your best chance. Your school will also send a few to Penn regularly. Other ivies are mostly off the table/irregular admits for unhooked.

No one from our very competitive public gets into Dartmouth either. I suspect they get a core group of students from the usual suspects - Philips Andover, Harvard Westlake, Dalton etc. And then it's their institutional priorities - athletes, first generation, faculty offspring, and so on. It's a small school. There aren't a lot of spots. I think it's one of those schools where if your high school doesn't historically send kids to Dartmouth, it's a bit of a waste of an app, particularly ED for unhooked students.

I've noticed the Dartmouth admits from our non-DMV private have a higher GPA than HYP. For us, they are similar to Stanford and Duke (nearly perfect—with something distinctive that stands out).

Many Dartmouth ED students from our private are rejected and then get into other T20 privates, including Northwestern, Duke, Penn, and Brown.

No one has cracked that formula.

That's a question I'd ask your HS counselor. Have they reached out to the Dartmouth admissions office to ask?

Dartmouth likes a VERY specific type of student. Maybe your applicants don't fit.

Dartmouth is tiny--they only admit around 1400 kids a year for a class of 1000.

They don’t take anyone from our school either (top 10 boarding school).

Maybe someone from your school got in ED and then didn't attend. That could sour a relationship.

It's dumb but that's what colleges do. At least you are at an elite high school and have many other opps.

Isn't this something called school relation? They just don't recognize your high school, simple as that.

Dartmouth is also one of the smallest among ivies. They are also looking for a particular type of applicants.

My experience. If they don't take students, don't bother applying. Waste of time.
