Jackson Hole is just a jumping off point for the National Parks. It's got some good food, for sure, though.

I could easily do a whole vacation there, though. A full week. Yellowstone and Grand Teton are geographically close, but geologically very different. While my family has done two vacations that combined both, these vacations were each two weeks long.

Rush creek lodge was great for us. Yellowstone is near but Tetons I liked better. You need more time for Yellowstone but Tetons were more intimate - smaller in scale. With limited time you would go well to explore Tetons. Not that Yellowstone but not sure why everyone flocks to it and doesn't enjoy Tetons to the fullest . Similar to Crater Lake - it's breathtaking but people aim for only Grand Canyon which is absolutely awesome but if you don't have the time to do GC right honestly beyond seeing a sunrise or sunset there's not much to experience you know? It's a damn canyon what are you gonna do on it? LOL just go somewhere you have the opportunity to explore right you'll love it

I will say that Banff and Jasper were also beautiful when we were there, but you'll want to check to see if Jasper recovered from the terrible fire.

I second the Jackson Lake Lodge. The Colter Bay area is stunning too, and you have to canoe/kayak on Jenny Lake. Imo GT is best for hikes because it's open and beautiful. Yellowstone is great to see geysers, natural wonders and animals, but scarier hikes. Jackson was okay but we felt like we could have skipped staying there: it has that rich mountain vibe that's a little off putting.

I wouldn't stay in Jackson the whole time - maybe one or two nights - and stay in Grand Teton and Yellowstone for those portions of the trip. GNP is one of my favorite parks, there are so many great hikes and alpine lakes and it's a little less busy than Yellowstone. In GNP I like Jackson Lake Lodge.

We did a week, flew into Bozeman, stayed in Gardner one night, drove through the Yellowstone and stayed at old faithful, then three nights in Jackson for grand Tetons and snake River tubing, then back up to YS Canyon Lake, and then out of Bozeman. Any less than a week and I feel like that’s not enough time.

We spent 8 nights: 3 in Grand Teton NP, 4 in Yellowstone NP, and 1 in Jackson. We did minimal walking/hiking as we are older. But with active teens and the variety of activities on offer, you could easily spend more time depending on your family's interests.

6 days in grand Teton/ Yellowstone/ Jackson hole is arguably too short, not too long. Unless you don’t really want to see much of Yellowstone. Couple days in Jackson hike, a couple hikes in grand Teton, pick 1-2 main attractions in Yellowstone to see, and your time is up.

I might not recommend sleeping in Jackson hole and driving to Yellowstone every day if you’re interested in Yellowstone stuff because that’s a lot of driving but YMMV if you don’t want to do anything north of old faithful

Would like to take our teenagers out there in August. Is Friday-Thursday too long? We can do Yellowstone, then drive to Bozeman?
