Yes it's new within the last 4 years. I had my previous lod 4 years ago (during COVID) and it wasn't a requirement. It is now when I had my 3rd last year.

I'm not sure why you weren't but it was given to me 7 years ago when I was pregnant with my son...it's been a thing for a while.

My son is 14. It was considered routine at GW to offer the Tdap to new parents after birth of their baby. DH and I both got it. I know 2 other couples who experienced the same thing back then.

They don't give it right after birth, women get a Tdap in their 3rd trimester to protect the baby from whooping cough during that 2 month window before the baby get get their own vaccine.

Many new parents get boosters for whopping cough, which are bundled in the same shot with tetanus. Moms can get them before they get pregnant, or in their third trimester, or after giving birth.

So, while PP is wrong that every mother gets it after giving birth, but yes many new mothers get tetanus shots.

If you don't work in agriculture related field or don't have a higher risk, why?

If you get cut badly enough for stitches they will likely jab you with a booster before you even are told what they are doing.

Just ask a pharmacist. I'm pretty sure it's not "too soon". Certainly, if you went to the doctor with a puncture wound, you'd get that shot regardless of the last time you received it. The more important part of the tetanus shot is not the tetanus part at all. It's the pertussis (whooping cough) part of the Tdap. Your immunity wears off and pertussis definitely goes around every year. You can get extremely sick from it and so can any baby who hasn't been vaccinated, yet.

It's fine. Plenty of people go to the ER and say they don't know when their last shot was, and get one after an injury. I am sure that many of them have been less than 7 years and they don't have problems.

I had my last tetanus shot between 7-11 years ago. I don't remember exactly how long ago, and I can't access that online at an old pharmacy.

Is getting another shot in 7 years "too soon?" And yes, I know I ought to be keeping better track of these things!
