OP here- same, I see one for Fredrick schools, and DCPS but not MOCO yet.

I would get your general application in soon so if you are interested you will already be in the system. It takes MCPS a long time processing applications.

I don’t see any current postings for social workers on the MCPS careers website. I wouldn’t expected any until staffing comes at the end of the month and/or when the final budget is approved.

We also have to jump through the state hoops. Can’t get blood from a rock. Expect deep cuts

I have friends that are PPW’s and they were never social workers. They are former classroom teachers

PPW are required to have a state PPW license. This is different than social workers.

Those are two different positions. There are also positions titled Social Worker.

I'd email the staffers listed on the careers page, right now internal hires are going to be prioritized.

I feel like they have hired more then they did in the past though I don't think there are a ton of positions out there. There is an open position now called Community School Liaison. It's a grant based position and relatively new. I've seen them listed as 10 month in the past. My DD's school has a Community School Liaison (and there are some similar positions that are for para's). They are typically put in title 1 schools and usually the positions I have seen posted have been tied to a specific school, this one seems more general. The CSL helps gets resources to families, organizes events to get goods and materials out to families, helps the principal, etc.

I thought it was just in high schools but MCPS might have expanded its use of social workers. Good luck. The social workers that worked with my child were amazing.

Current fed considering possible career move.

I have an MSW and did social work with children and families through a non profit about 10 years ago before going into a different field and landing as a fed. Given the current lack of job security, starting to think through alternative moves. The salary would be lower, but I have a kid now and being on the same schedule seems like a great perk of working for the school system. I would need to get a license in MD but that seems doable.

Does MCPS have social workers in elementary schools? The only job currently posted is with head start. Any insights into this job, funding for it given potential cuts or advice for getting a position?

Thanks!
