How do you check for this (I have an iPhone)?

My info is just not valuable enough to waste time, energy or money to protect.

IVerify says it does. The spyware industry is fracturing though with lots of new spyware being sold. I know amnesty also does - I'm sure now there are a lot more people who should be concerned about it.

I don’t know of a way to detect spyware on an iPhone. The antivirus apps in the store are very basic and don’t do much of anything. I think there are organizations that can check your phone for Pegasus and other infections.
