We were there last summer (family lives there). It’s very safe but prepare for possible food poisoning (don’t drink the tap water, take pepto bismol, etc…)
Despite being a beautiful country, it’s not at all touristy. The lack of tourism infrastructure can be seen as a plus by some and a negative by others. People won’t hassle you in the streets/markets (like in Tunisia or Morocco) but it might feel more run down and less “polished” compared to the other North African countries.
