Tung oil will take days to weeks to dry properly and require many coats.

Just use regular BLO oil products, which is the traditional method for wood floors.

Oil finished floors are not very scratch or water resistant at all, so beware of traffic and never wet mop, but the oil rubbed finish gives quality wood floors that old nice colonial plantation look.

We spot oil it with lemon oil.

Have to be careful afterward as it gets slippery when wet but I’m a huge fan as is my wife.

Just be sure to color test it on your wood before you do anything on the actual floor. I did not care for the color it produced.

Highly recommend.

Did it in my own house twenty years ago.

Wears very well.

Not sure of current products.

One downside is dog urine will “pass through” finish and stain the wood. So if you have young or old dogs that might be a concern.

We have new white oak floors in a historic house and are considering using Tung Oil (as an alternate to oil based polyurethane). Anyone have any experience, good or bad with the product? We like the non toxic / low VOC and are not deterred by the long cure time for initial applications (although a little daunted by potential for higher maintenance after that). Questions I have include:
- how often does one need to reapply after the initial 3-5 coats cure?
- are there other downsides like discoloration due to sunlight/UV?
- what product do you recommend. I see a lot of recommendations saying you need to be careful to get 100% Tung Oil and then a lot for WaterLox which as a 100% version and another original formula which I think has additives

Grateful for any advice!
