+1 this should really be funded outside of the MCPS budget. The county has mental health services, they should provide it.

They have a very minimal amount and impossible to get care from.

Then it should be easy for the county to fund it

Let's keep the cuts going then since MCPS also provides occupational and physical therapy to children and students with IEPs from age 3 to 21. Or does this position bother you because it serves immigrant children? Should we cut PPWs as well? School Psychologists? Not provide ANY services?

It's 26 counselors for the whole county, they only serve students who truly need this service, we're not talking about an extra position in each school.

Better solution. Taylor is asking for more money. Let’s fund one at every school.

Kids need therapy, but I don’t feel like this therapy should be under MCPS. Shouldn’t there be another organization providing the social services for the kids? We cannot provide everything for everyone so limiting therapy makes sense to me.

Maybe it would be helpful to find out what a day looks like for these therapists? And how are children picked for them? Already, 26 counselors bring shared around the county does not lead me to believe they can service that many kids effectively.

Of course he needs to request more money. The price of everything is increasing including labor, benefits, maintaining facilities, etc.

Or, he can be transparent and accountable and get rid of the wasteful spending. It is for more staff and other things. All while quietly cutting programs that kids need.

Do you know for a fact that this was cut by MCPS? Honestly, this program looks a lot like some transitions programs that I have seen cut around the country because they were directly funded by the department of education, who put them on The chopping block almost immediately.

Were these cuts in the original 81 positions cut from CO or is this new?

If your kid needs a therapeutic counselor they should seek that outside the school.

All of Taylor's cuts seem to be hitting everyone with shock and surprise and consistently without any input or feedback from the impacted teams, even though he promised to be a more transparent and collaborative superintendent. What happened?

This is who we talk about when we say, central office includes student facing positions and why we can't just say 'Cut CO' without understanding who it impacts.
