Yup, my 3rd grader has 2s for every single special. I'm guessing her specials scores will jump to 3s at the end of the year. Just stupid.

Teachers have voiced this to the county but I really suggest parents do too. Not to your child's teacher or school admin- they didn't make these decisions. Send them to the directors at the office of academics: https://www.apsva.us/departments/academics/

Always send emails, to everyone. If you are relentless, anything can be fixed, even in APS!

They're all supposed to be full year standards.

My only reason for thinking it isn't the right report card is because there's been no indication my kid isn't performing well. She says she's done great on all of her assessments (and she's a kid that doesn't lie and wouldn't lie about this). She's been in the advanced group and is getting enrichment.

I was a teacher, but not in APS, and if there was a kid who had solid report cards for years and then a dramatic decline, it would have warranted some kind of message home and extensive comments. Plus an offer on how to get the kid support.

It's possible the teacher didn't understand how to score in the fall and has since adjusted. It's a new system.

Or the teacher thought the student had the skill but, having seen more work from the student, thinks they're not quite at the standard yet. Grading is subjective to some extent.

How possible is for it to get someone else's grades? My APS elementary school student was mostly 3s last quarter and now is entirely 2s for the same standards. Everything assessed before now has a lower grade. We were told they were assessing on the year end standard, so if she was a 3 before and a 2 now,it would mean she's losing skills. That doesn't make sense to me. There's zero comments to clue on what happened. No tests or work comes home and the teacher has never mentioned a problem.

I'm going to reach out in the morning, but in the meantime I'd appreciate any insight on:

1) is my understanding of standards based grading correct?
2) is it possible to put in another kid's grades? That seems more likely
3) how do you lose skills for every standard? It just doesn't make sense to me.
