My phone is on vibrate mode. Works well for me.

My alarm is vibrate mode too. No problems waking up to it.

I did once get a call from the college telling me that my son had been taken by the campus paramedics to the hospital. I missed it because the sound was off, but got the voicemail and fortunately saw it before I went to bed.

There isn't a perfect answer here, unfortunately. I still usually leave the ringer off. I am the PP above talking about the house phone.

When I was in college I needed to use a pay phone. It all worked out.

I've never used DND on my phone, but there are times when my ringer is turned off, and I forget about it until the next day. I'm never freaked out or bothered when it happens. I don't even really think about it.

Apple has a feature where you can have double calls break through DND. They just have to call twice.

I do not keep my phone on DND.

I would hope my kids would be smart enough to dial 911 in such a situation. WTF am I going to do for them?

I don’t sleep with my phone in my room. My kids are both 2,000+ miles away. There is nothing I could do immediately in an emergency even if I answered. Kids are senior and sophomore.

Our house phone ringer is on, so if they can't reach my mobile, they'd just call the house phone (which pretty much wakes up the whole house).

That said, if someone calls from the college in an emergency, they will probably be calling your mobile number. And, not knowing what that number is, you can't set up do not disturb for it, unless somehow that could be done for the area code.

Thank you! I'm very anxious about this. Really wanted DC to stay within easy driving distance but it didn't happen.

I do not but I don’t have sound on so I would not hear it ring (vibration is broken). Honestly, you get used to it. And your kid will have other resources for help, along with maturing and being able to figure things out. I don’t have life 360 but I do have find my. At first I did check once to see if my SD made it home from her first frat party, but I honestly don’t check it unless I want to call for some reason and want to make sure she is home. She does the same. She always seems to k is where I am.

Thinking last night about my kid leaving as I got into bed, I wondered: Do you keep your phone on DND when your child is away at school? The idea of him not being able to reach me, freaks me out.
