We just lost power

Ugh, our power’s been out for 12 hours

Worst wind gusts now expected mid afternoon to evening.

We had a medium branch fall on our house during the mild ice event last week. Minimal damage. Tried to schedule a tree-trimming service, but they haven't yet arrived.

I'm a little worried the rest of the branches are unsound as well and some aren't just going to take out the gutter.

This is what people should be really worried about and not the snow storm coming up mid-week. A high wind warning is serious - that’s what we had during the 2018 wind storm. That storm rolled in on a Friday morning, and by mid day there were widespread power outages. If you were lucky, you got power back late Friday night or sometime Saturday during the day. But some people were out until Monday or later! There were about 20 schools in FCPS without power by the Monday after the storm hit.

With a winter storm likely to hit on Wednesday, everyone needs to hope and pray for no power outages and for power to be restored by Tuesday if there are outages. This is a serious situation and could easily be fatal with the seriously low temperatures the winter storm is going to bring.

I hope we don't lose power!

Between that and the upcoming snowstorm, I am so ready for Spring.

Worst 50-60mph gusts will be midday into the afternoon. Per National Weather Service:
“Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

Take a look at this interesting map: not only do we have a high wind warning around DC, but there's a blizzard warning and a flood warning to the west, in the mountains, with various other warnings besides. It's rare that the whole region lights up with different warnings! All to do with previous snowfall melting, new snow coming for the mountains, and a winter storm rushing north of us.
