They did the same thing during the govt shutdown (2018?) when folks were not getting paid and needed sub money.

Aren’t the local counties going to suffer as their taxable base shrinks though? There will be less tax on goods too as people cut back on spending.

Was that meant to be a dig at “lazy Feds”? A lot of the reason people like WFH is that commutes to federal offices can be tough, parking expensive, commutes by public transport uncomfortable and frustrating. Working in person where perhaps one could drive easily in a 20 min distance of their home and park in a normal lot is a lot less stressful. And, teaching, of course is in person but teachers do get summers off. I’m not suggesting teaching is easy at all - I think it’s an incredibly hard job and it pays a lot less than a lot of Feds with professional degrees were making but it may be a good fit for a small group of people.

In times of despair, always look for the helpers. Thank you, OP.

Please check job listings with FCPS, ACPS, APS, Falls Church City school districts and their respective counties. Besides teaching positions there are a lot of openings in Facilities, Human Resources, Budget, Grants, Transportation and many more Central Office positions.

School districts and counties are covered under the VRS ( Virginia Retirement System), great leave benefits, healthcare, disability, hybrid schedule etc. They may not be as good as Federal employment but they are a pretty solid second option. In fact I am in the process of interviewing for one of the Central Office positions and I have been waiting for any interest from Federal employees.

The 2 fields have a lot of overlap in their skills sets and compensation packages. However, any jobs with FCPS require a 100% RTO, which will likely turn off a lot of Feds.
