$20k as a sever in Adams Morgan, but working 50 hours a week. 40 would have been nice.

Graduated in ‘98. Got my first salaried job in 2000 in NYC and it paid $26,000. And there was no PTO whatsoever until I’d worked there an entire year.

$28k as an entry-level technical person and I felt I had hit the jackpot - my previous job was $19k. I’ve worked for NGOs all my life, until this week that is. RIF’d making $120k.

Wow. My first job out of college I made $18,000 in 1991, and I was so happy with that. I got married in 2000 and was at $65k (had switched from non-profit to for profit).

FWIW, I was a SAHM for many years with kids, and am now back to FT non-profit work, and am at $120k

Looking back, it seems like such a great starting salary. It feels like inflation has increased tremendously since then but salaries have not.

In 2020 I had a masters degree and 10 years experience; was making 40k a year.
