A backyard chicken has more freedom than basically any commercial chicken.

Avian flu. Your flock endangers wild birds (saw 2 6 week old eaglets die on a Florida webcam) and vice versa. Pets will catch it. Cats usually die. Dunno if dogs do too. You will have to euthanize your flock.

Just buy the damn eggs and save elsewhere. Or eat something else.

So, now is NOT the time to encourage backyard chickens because of bird flu. You realize this transmits through wild birds and virus that ends up in yards, right? Terrible time for backyard chickens!
