A corollary is that the alumni population and network are necessarily correspondingly smaller. The lack of name recognition may be a drawback professionally, at least in the early career stage where one doesn't yet have extensive credible experience, unless a student goes on to a better-known graduate school later.

This WalletHub ranking, for example, which used fairly conventional methods, placed W&L a notable 18th when compared to colleges and universities nationally:

As a subjective comment, W&L appears to be more conservative and preppy than its academic peers, perhaps to an extent at which it might seem borderline archaic to some.
WalletHub ranks W&L 5 spots ahead of Penn and 7 spots ahead of Chicago. I suppose it’s possible. Oddly, the lead in to the list has the top five colleges include 4 that are ranked behind W&L (the fifth being Swarthmore). A quirky ranking, publication and presentation. That said, if my older child decides on law school, I hope she considers W&L.
The wallethub rankings are a fascinating resource. W&L is the 608th safest campus and Northeastern is 99th safest. The least safe campus is St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Why would St. Mary's College of Maryland be deemed unsafe? That makes zero sense.

It's ranking dropped from 11 to 19, why?
